plastic recycling programs

OUR PLASTIC RECYCLING PROJECT

Our plastic recycling program has been developed to help prevent plastics from entering the marine environment and enact positive change through awareness and education. This program will take plastics that would otherwise end up in landfills or the ocean, recycle them and repurpose them into something useful.

We have opened plastic recycling workshops to schools that wish to understand the process and deliver educational programs to explain this. Our ‘Plastic Recycling Workshop’ is a favoured program within schools, offering a hands-on experience suitable to all ages and abilities. Students will experience the whole process of recycling – collecting, sorting, washing, granulating, and moulding new products while using new, innovative technology. Participants will be inspired through a creative outlet to change their consumer behaviours and trends by better understanding the properties of plastic and their impacts on the environment and society.

We will also offer programs that explain the effects plastics have on ecosystems through stimulating boat tours in Port Phillip Bay, where students will immerse themselves in the marine environment and get close and personal with an array of flora and fauna.

Sessions and workshops will be delivered by the SOEL

GET INVOLVED

If you wish to contribute and be a part of this program, you can collect your plastic milk carton lids (type 2 or 4 plastic) and donate them to SOEL to be repurposed into these valuable items. You can take them to the Sea All Dolphin Swims Office, located at the Queenscliff Harbour, and they will pass them onto SOEL to be recycled. Lids4kids is also a supportive partner of our recycling programs and offers numerous donation points for plastic lids – nationwide!

You can also become a donor and contribute by making a donation that will help fund these programs and keep them running. Donations to SOEL will also help support research and conservation projects such as the ‘Fin ID’ program.

We are taking expressions of interest for volunteers, so if you would like to become a member of SOEL and be involved in these programs in the future, you can click here to sign up. Becoming a volunteer is an incredible way to share your passion for the marine environment with like-minded people, together with working to make a positive difference!
